It was roomie Josh's birthday though. I generally don't try to do much for people's birthday. When I do, I always try way too hard to make it a surprise, and then feel bad because I don't try hard for everyone. So, most people are lucky to get a card from me. But Kari doesn't pass up the opportunity! So I rounded up a few folks to come on over after church, being one of our first Wednesday nights in a long while without choir practice.Today was a tad lazy again as, at home, I only cleaned a closet and did laundry...wait, I need to put that in the drier don't I? BRB! ...done. Also stopped by the insurance company's office and yelled at them for a few minutes. If you can't give me a complete, accurate and documented answer, then why would anyone ask you anything in the first place? Wait, is that why people do it? Shady.
Duncan needs a new computer. Will somebody PLEASE get her a new computer!? It's not that I don't like getting the support calls, it's just that I can't start a new career as an $80 per hour private computer support person with someone poorer than I am right now!! :-) At least get the girl some RAM. This is all that's keeping her box chugging along.
I got so bored waiting for Internet Explorer to come up that found a new pair of slippers I want for Christmas. On a fun note, Dad's old computer is now going to serve as a play ground for application/database hosting, network security, media hosting or whatever else my little heart desires to learn. Lets see how long that lasts.
Final event of the night, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Was VERY apprehensive about this since Joseph is my favorite Bible story. But everyone and their dog has seen this musical, and I haven't! So the dream team headed out for the night to see it at Eastlight Theater in EP. Joy, sorry, I was off by one night. Erica, your fam was awesome on stage, and I ran into your sisters too!
Like the idiot I am, the camera was left in the Husemobile for most of the night. All I got on film was this. It's not even worth putting a Storm tag on the post...really. Josh made it worthwhile by stating just moments ago, "Hey, who's THAT tall drink of water?". I swear I'm not gay.So, what's the review of the show? Well, not that great. No no...not the performing. Although it was agreed that a few scenes did remind us of highschool plays. The problem is the way the story is told. I suspected that different troupes would have widely differing presentations of the musical, and they do. The one Storm and Katie saw last month was set in modern day Las Vegas for instance. But I'm guessing they have certain common themes that I'm going to complain about. I'll try to keep it shorter than last time's musical rant.
My biggest beef with this show was simply the significant change in the meaning of the story and main characters. In stories where that is the most important part (and NOT the entertainment value) you pretty much have no good reason left to perform it when the meaning has changed.
Take Lord Of The Rings for example. Great acting and amazing production. I've watched it over and over again and enjoyed it thoroughly. But I'm SOOOO disappointed with the change in Aragorn's character. The dude was NOT interested in ANOTHER woman. He was not shaken by anything, especially not a fake vision by Sauron in a seeing stone (last movie). The dude actually took on Sauron in a seeing stone in the second movie. And once the Fellowship left Rivendale, he was NOT afraid to take the sword! He took on his destiny (after denying it for years) with courage head on! Honestly!! They turned him into a sissy outside of battle!
Joseph was probably foolish for not seeing how his status and attitude effected his brothers, but he did grow up in wisdom as well. This is the man who, at a relatively young age, was entrusted to run Potiphar's work, the prison he was in, and later all of Egypt! His brothers did great evil to him, and had intended much worse. This doesn't happen because a teenager can't keep his mouth shut. It was not the fault of some fictional thick and ugly pride on Joseph's part...but you wouldn't know it from his first song. They tried to go the same route as Cain out of jealously. (Gen. 37).
Joseph was not benefited by luck, as two songs proclaimed. God's hand lead him to favor every time, and Joseph's attitude and patience reflected honor and glory to God alone for it. And he most certainly DID NOT play tonsil hockey with Potiphar's wife!!! And what's with the brothers dancing Caribbean style after Benjamin get's thrown in prison? They were freaked out and directly connected it to their sin in grief in the actual story. Character murder...honestly.
