Construction work

There's one thing I can cross off the list of possible temp jobs while unemployed. Saturday morning, an opportunity was offered to our church congregation to help get some work done on the new church property.

All pictures came from the church's construction pictures page. I had my camera, but it doesn't operate while the battery is charging...at home.

The main work was erecting 20 foot temporary wall frames covered in visqueen sheeting to protect sections of the site from wind and other elements.

They were hoping for 12 or so people to help out, but 40-50 showed up. The ladies of Bethany are totally used to that though. There was plenty of coffee, donuts and chili for everyone :-)

Larry grew up around construction, and in his glass business he has dealt with the monotonous details of job bids and contracts. We were standing in the room of the Core construction trailer with all of the copies of blueprints and specifications for the church when he told me a little bit about the process.

Timmy and Mr. Brush threw together window panels with ease while Kevin struggled with the basic motor skills required to unwrap plastic.

Earlier, work gloves were getting in my way and I thought perhaps the work will keep them warm. I've never tried hammering nails with numb hands before. Turns out I wasn't supposed to. The finger is healing nicely and feeling is coming back.

Truth is, I found plenty to do and enjoyed it. Even though this site was filled with alot of (but not all) professionals, the unspoken directions that many of them are used to in a fast paced environment did not keep me (dummy) from being productive. But, I'm not about to try it for real.

Kevin,
That is soo funny... "While I struggled with the basic skills","turns out I wasn't supposed to." I like it...because I know you'll be ok.

With love (The brotherly kind...thought I better clarify that!),
