Great Blog

It's late. I'm tired. There's plenty to blog about. The new church building. The snake feeding at school today. Job changes. Instead, lets brag about a great person with a great message and not think about that fact that I'm just too tired to post. Good Night.

Hold on for a long post.

Forget about dates. The following events happened some time in the last two weeks.
Wes and Butch lead teaching and music at the Rescue mission service for our Career Impact sponsored night. I saw the guys downtown getting into the service whole-heartedly with Butch's joyful worship and Wes' grounded and transparent testimony and lesson.
A couple of Peoria's McDonald's restaurants got to compete for drive-thru bragging rights. I went through Ryan's a couple of times, just to make sure the service was equal each time. Here he's on his way out to whip the guy holding the sign because it's just not bringing in the traffic he'd like.

Janell's Store took FOREVER to drive through. It's like they had alot of business or something :-) And she handed them to me personally. I have the picture to prove it. Really.... I do.

School's fun. We've got characters. Even more at the Middle School campus than the main one. Mr. Rumba can sniff out food just as well as I. Here, he found some coffee cake of which he said "40% of this piece is calorie free". Get it? Funny man.

Half the classes have a sugar stash of some kind. The teachers understand that I must enforce a food tax every time I make a classroom call.

Luckily, we've only had to use this button on rare occasion. Or over and over again when someone brings a baby and gives them the stupid button.

My discipleship group had to put me on 24-hour hand mutilation watch after stabbing my left twice in a few days. First hit bone, then went through some nice muscle.

A doctors appointment (something unrelated and boring) had me in the waiting room for over an hour. This was a bummer because I had alot of work to do. But, being one of the first nice days of the spring, I realized how lucky I was to have a decent view and lots of sunlight while I waited and caught up on my soaps.

Master Kim, my TaeKwonDo instructor, observes Matt, a purple belt (or blue, can't remember), testing for his next. Matt is always helpful when we practice together and I'll miss having him around when he graduates sschool. Master Kim is a great instructor keeping a close eye on everyone and helping us to be patient as he makes sure we are trained correctly before moving on. I had a whole spiritually relevant comparison thought up, but after waiting so long to post about it I have to pay the price. It's gone. Poof. Oh ya by the way, I'm taking TaiKwonDo lessons. Don't ever be impressed. I rolled my ankle tripping over a balance beam...and then again jumping rope.

Happy Birthday Owen! It's my first one year old birthday party. Not what I expected. Thought it was going to be a bunch of other one year old kids put together in the same room with no clue why they were together. A bunch of Owen's parent's friends watching Owen have no clue what was going on was much better.

No clue there was something edible on his plate.

It's the Tawfiks!!!! (so sorry Jan...)

This was followed immediately by a big boy birthday at the Christian Center for Joe. You know, one of several dudes spending all his free time helping setup the technical equipment at the new church before it goes (more) live on Easter. Not many pictures taken, but some guys I rarely get to hang with were having a good time with the ping pong.

Peter 'bout to get whoooooped by Treyvo.

This post needs some Chicas. Here ya go. Sunday lunch pose by Becky and Alyssa.

First Day of Spring.

Obviously

On this beautiful first day of Spring, I joined several others heading out to see a Cirque Du Soleil show in Champaign, IL. We all fit in one car, but some people felt like splitting into a few. Pffft. See?! Becky's comfortable!

Mmmmmmm. The blog stops at the awesome college town food since I decided to be all legal and put away the camera for the entire show.

Thankfully more professional recordings are easily available. The Cirque Du Soleil Alegria show was a little different than the ones I had seen advertised. There were some great acts which really kept me going like the human hula hoop or olympic style hand balancing. My favorite part was actually the Flying Man, simply because of the hypnotic music that you had to be there to feel. NOT because of the flying ballerina man with makeup!

Plenty

It's time to play some catch up. Within hours after blogging about why I don't blog much anymore, the reasons started melting away from the tons of things going on around me. There's too much going on to not talk about it unless I'm too busy, lazy or not in the mood. None of those should be happening. Tonight, Master Kim was a great teacher and yesterday, Noah have plenty of food for thought about God's presence. Last week...

Day 1 of my long awaited spring break vacation got slammed shut shorty after breakfast. I got the call that my workplace, Peoria Christian School, had been broken into. Nearly every single person with an ounce of authority at that school was out of town or leaving that morning. So I got stuck trading stories with the cops for 6 hours. It was stressful at the time since at first I wasn't sure if the kid got in because of a mistake I had made, I missed lunch because I was too worried about leaving and everything I had planned on doing got pushed back indefinitely.

It was later that I realized how cool it was to get to know a couple of the Peoria Heights officers and see how things work. I won't talk much about the break in, but it's pretty open and shut and taken care of. The Crime scene investigator had to be called in from a couple hours away. He was quite entertained by the present left behind in the locker room by the little punk. He's pretty sure Peoria was made famous by being one of the first places where a shoe print was used to solve a crime (hard to believe, but whatever). Peoria could have been made famous again by being one of the first to solve a crime with a butt-print. To bad we didn't need it.

Found it!!

As a person who is terrible at putting alot of good thought into gifts for friends and family, it's a relief to know this far ahead of time EXACTLY what I'm going to try to get a group of friends to buy for Peter and Kelli's wedding gift.
It's only about $1500.

Bonus

Lookie here! We gotta two-fer on blogable content in one day. I lost a bet. Betting on the odds that Butch would never make it to a salsa activity with the group of salsa crazies from church, I figured it would be safe to say "I'll go when Butch goes". Well he went tonight.

I've been to a couple of friendly Rueda Salsa nights at people's houses where a few friends give informal lessons. But getting together at the Contemporary Arts Center with a few dozen people you don't know is alot different. They are very helpful and encouraging though. Daphnie was my experienced partner and didn't mind when I stepped on her pointy shoes. When open dancing got started though, Butch and I looked like a couple of high school dance rejects on the sideline. Basically just making fun of the ridiculous outfits both genders came in and talking about deep philosophical issues (women).

Our bogus friends who got us to come in the first place were SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO late. LAME!!!

Same Old Same Old

I was harassed thoroughly last night regarding the lack of blog updates recently. While I love being noticed, that's not what I'm going for here. Today was the final, and finally productive day of a "three day" vacation. But what is there to report that you haven't heard before? I loved going down to the junk yard. Being dwarfed by the huge semi loads of metal with my little $20 truck load.
Seeing the huge equipment ripping up scrap like paper.

Throwing huge pieces of junk into a pile...you know you'd like it too. But we've already been here before. The location of the post escapes me, but trust me, it's been blogged about before. This occurs to me often. In the my bad section, whenever I feel like spilling deep thoughts, they won't come out in a coherent form. And lets be honest, not alot of people are excited these days about "gotcha" pictures.

But don't fear, there's still good stuff that comes along now and then. Like the terrible lengths Ryan will go through, and put his employees through, to win a drive-thru contest...

Poor guy. I almost ran him over to put him out of his misery. The sign reads "Help us win a contest". I would have dared Ryan to wear the wig had I known ahead of time :-)

No Loitering!!!

I look old!?!?! Below you see a couple of groups of people. One group received a student discount to a movie, the other did not. No one from either group asked for or about a student discount. I'm sure you can guess which group got the discount.

As my neighbor Jed stands behind me analyzing my complaints, it is hard to refute the hairlines and spot light glaring off of our heads. I just lost track of when my status as high school class baby-face expired. (picture not provided)
Huckleberry Hobbs, you rebel.

Aaaaaaaaaand...chicks with a vase.

Whatcha Been Up To?

It's sorta gratifying to have so many people ask (one way or another) about one missed Sunday morning. That's what I got after missing yesterday because I was sick. And thanks to Andrew's prodding, I've got my glass of green tea and a blog to get to.

Work kicks my rear during this season. It's the same season I started in last year. Back then, I thought it was going to be a year-round paid workout, but it died down. Turns out this season is just tough every year. A big one is the Equip Conference. We pack all the high school desks into a few rooms. Last year, someone else was in charge of the stacking (left). This year, I was (right)....Back off, it got the job done.

Sometimes the only rest you get during a weekend school event is fueling the buses. Apparently I had a free-loader stealing my phone and taking pictures.

There was some blog-worthy fun stuff too. Thursday was the class' official tour of the new church building.

A tour with the Ushers a few weeks ago showed an awesome transformation, but thanks to a couple of curious troublemakers, I still found new things. Look at them, up to nothing good.

Here's the new server room. Ryan set up the network to direct all page requests to McDonalds.com.

Our Sunday school class found our recently upgraded classroom. Ryan and Ben found a couple of ways to get to the roof.

The next night, I enjoyed a relaxed dinner and card game with the Stubes, Janna and Jill. Sorry Jill. It was either you or Janna not smiling. Jed is not performing his diaper smelling duty, but I'm sure this is what it would look like if he were.
