Getting Somewhere

Wednesday was my second day of vacation used to try to catch up on life. I would say I got somewhere, but the list of ToDos also grew as I realized more things that needed to get done.

Day 2 started at 10am...again. Oops After doing some reading and sending several emails, I went to lunch down at the carts by the Peoria courthouse. Yup, Asian food again, darn good.

Pat, my old neighbor and current Dallas Theological Seminary student, joined me for lunch once again. He'll be here most of the summer. It's so easy to take his summers for granted, so I hope to see him a little more than last year.

Here's a partial list of the things that got done today after lunch.

Swept up all the junk my huge tree drops every spring. One pile of many. The hose is from rinsing off the muddy tarp I took camping a couple weekends ago.

Trimmed down the shrimpy trees trying to grow from the big one. Yes, that's a pretty sad item to list.

Changed the oil in my car.

Cleaned it out.

Cleaned out the Corsica, filled the coolant and tried to dry it out. Ya, it's still soaked a little from the last time it was out in the rain.

Uprooted the forest growing in my garage gutters.

I wasn't planning on doing so much outdoor stuff. Hopefully the house will get cleaned a little tonight.

Later on last night was Men's Bible study. We had some early birds who came to review last week's lesson, and a good showing for the normal session. Thanks for cooking and hosting II Peter! This week's lesson was the first mention of resolving conflict, as well as setting boundaries in dating. We also tangented into where you get advice. It's kinda where Tommy Nelson left off last week in Psalm 1, which is referring to God's word for finding truth. We have a wealth of wise, caring and experienced leaders at our church as well, who would love to talk to ANYONE in need. It's important to remember that we can't just stick to the same old peers who have usually agreed with us or made us feel good in the past. It's easy to get an answer you're looking for, it's hard to hear from someone older than you that God has a plan that you might not like right now, and your hopes are not necessarily His goals. Please don't retract into your college or high school days for comfort and contentment. God has an amazing future for you and His glory.

In talking about the timing of when to discuss boundaries, we digressed to the popular topic of how long it took various couples in our class to get engaged and married. Favorite comment of the night (there were several). "Storm and Katie got engaged after dating 2-3 months" (Response from the crowd) "2-3 Months? It took me that long to pick my cell phone plan!!"

Hey, two of the most shocked people are still Katie and Storm.

But you can't mess with God's plan...
