Half day

Took a half day today from work. Partially because of the busy weekend coming up. Mostly because of the lack of clean clothes. Yes, it's gotten that bad. I'm so grateful for my lenient boss. I apologize for the "Me"ness of today's post. It was just easier to explain in my own chronological order.

Before heading out for lunch, I got to spend some farewell time with Rodney and Katie on their last day living in Peoria. Rodney and Katie, my neighbors, are moving away for a maximum of two years, renting the house to my current roommate, Jed, who is getting married soon.

Yes, I know I look like a dork in that picture. I'm sorry.

Rodney made some fun modifications to the project car he is taking down to Houston. Notice the use of duct tape on the updated fuel tank.

After that, had lunch with Steve, a buddy from church who is transferring some church responsibilities to me. No pictures, sorry.

After work, I'm sorry to say that I tried to take another nap, which failed. Tonight, Men's Bible study was at another location to which everyone needed directions. I got to men's Bible study, ready to enjoy Noah's hospitality and the final lesson regarding "The Honeymoon" from the Song Of Solomon, when I received a phone call from my departing neighbor, Rodney. I left Bible study immediately.

It turns out we had some excitement in the hood. While Rodney and Katie were finishing up some last minute cleaning of the house, Rodney noticed some suspicious teens hanging around my garage. After moving to another room to clean, he noticed said teens riding familiar bikes through and out of his hard. Realizing that they had just stolen two bicycles from my garage, he charged after them yelling "drop those bikes", which they did. He called me. Shortly after I arrived, the police showed up with three of the kids who lifted the bikes. Rodney positively identified all of the hoodlums.

Yes, I was too nervous to ask the cops if I could take pictures. This was taken from the inconspicuousness of my upstairs window.

It turns out that these juveniles had nothing on their record. This was their first offense. And because the building they broke in to was not technically residential (it's a detached garage) they will not spend the night in prison. However, it is estimated that their mothers will shortly turn up convicted of murder, as these kids are not expected to last the night when their mom's get them back tonight. They were quite infuriated as the cops read them their rights.

Back to Bible study. Apparently, tonight's video from the Song of Solomon was a bit graphic. Upon my return, I was greeted by suspicions that my absence was planned in order to avoid the awkwardness of tonight's video. Some telling quotes of tonight's atmosphere:

"I was afraid to move, so I let my left arm go numb rather than be the first person in the room to move."

After explaining to Noah that our Sunday school class leaders had gone through this series with the class about five years ago, he responded with the question, "Is this why we still get segregated groups in the room at most class activities?"

In expectation of part 2 of tonight's awkward topic (the honeymoon), Peter dressed the part with Bible in tow.

I dunno what the big deal was. When I got home from checking in on the guys, Andrew and I reviewed tonight's lesson, and didn't see anything uncomfortable.

In all honesty, Tommy Nelson expresses the sensitivity, respect and consideration for your mate that Solomon describes in his book. As Andrew and I watched it, we could joke and casually discuss, knowing that God's intention for sex is glorious and glorifying.

Thank you for hosting and cooking tonight Noah. It was awesome.

Pretty eventful day... props to Rodney for going after the 'hoodlums'.

I have comments for the other part of your blog, but they're best left for next Tuesday.
