The Return (Wednesday)

I woke up one morning on vacation wondering how I could be purposeful about glorifying God while on vacation. By definition, a vacation is a pretty selfish thing right? Glorifying God isn't about what you did, it's why and what your purpose and heart work towards. But still, when you're trying to get your heart there, it takes thought and choices. I never really arrived at any astounding conclusion, but I did decide that as long as you are with at least one other person, there are plenty of directions you can notice about yourself that reveal a desire to either please yourself, or please your heavenly father.

Wellll, there's a first for everything. I came THIS close to missing my flight to Slovenia last year because I forgot my passport. The airport was only 20 minutes away from home and I had gotten there pretty early by Peoria standards. I've missed flights before because they were canceled or redirected. But never because of myself, until Wednesday. This trip has been planned for a while, but the choice in flight plans fluctuated for a while until finally pinning one down just a few weeks before. I thought I ended up with a 10:20 departure from Pensacola, but that was actually the flights arrival time in Atlanta. Oops. The nice lady at the desk (that's a lie, they're never nice...except when Mom worked there) found the next best option for me, still getting home the same evening.

I was pretty bummed at first. I planned to get back home by a certain time and it required alot of things to go right, including the unrealistic half hour layover in Atlanta that I didn't notice until WAY too late. Knowing that I was only bummed about MY plans, and that it doesn't effect anyone else, I've learned to at least TRY to figure out why my plan was bunk compared to what God ended up doing. Not hard this time. I can't remember the last time I had a few hours of free time without the normal distractions at home. I wasn't at work, wasn't available to be called on by anyone, and wasn't going to log on to the internet from the airport this time because I just couldn't justify the cost. So I worked on alot of reading and...yes blog post preparation. Took some time to explore the airport. Nothing exciting, but I still love exploring new places. In the end, let go of my plan and relaxed a little bit. As much as you can relax in a couple of airports I guess.

After Atlanta, I got to experience a new (to me) airport. The Detroit-Wayne County airport. Again, nothing special, but it's probably cool during the day cuz it lets in alot of natural light.

Flying at night can be pretty boring for the most part, but not while you're flying over huge cities. I love that part. Bright lights covering the earth. We must have flown over East Chicago, because at one point there were lights as far as you could see. At another, you could see cities connected to cities conected to cities. Pretty cooooool.

Was supposed to be back in time for AWANA, but was still back in time for choir .
