The Monday night softball league was able to sneak in a rain make-up game today before the normal evening line up. The made up game was the Bethany vs. Bethany game from weeks ago. The next game after that was...the next Bethany vs. Bethany game. The only thing better than a B vs. B is a double header of the same.
Get your game face on BW! Not alot of showing for such a huge event. Thanks Tim and Nicole! I'm kidding!! Adult section... ...kiddie section. You go boy!!!!! ......HOT!
Final scores? BE had no mercy with two wins in a row. But both teams were a blast to watch with very intense plays and the knowledge that good sportsmanship would win out every time. Great job teams!!
Nothing out of the ordinary to report for Sunday except my amusement over the dessert fiasco at tonight's church Love Feast. Each table brings it's own side dishes and desserts, but it always turns into a 10-table dessert buffet. I stopped weighing myself the Monday after Love Feasts. Thankfully, we only have a few every year :-)
Ever had one of those days where one thing lead to another in the area of chores? I get one once a month. My old roomie Rodney had them alot. He was what we call "productive". It was nice to see a few things get done around the house while the roomie abandoned me all day. After all the yard work and exercise, Noah hosted a simple spades night.
Noah and Sarah maintained their losing streak thanks to Noah's failed Nill hand on the first trick (embarrasing), and my suicide attempt at Nill which actually succeeded. We don't understand how yet.
So seriously, my boss only made us work 6 hours today, but that was enough to completely wipe me. By the time I got home my hands were still shaking and I took a two hour nap without even trying. In my defense, even my boss looked wiped. The bulk of the work was tearing up bushes and trees, putting three truck loads onto one truck. These dudes from Blackshore who brought the truck had really cool nick names, like Boomer.
I haven't figured out how this happened yet, but the B-man's are out of town this weekend and even though their dog is not around, someone else's dogs are at their house. Guess who gets to play with take care of 'em? Maddie was terrified at first, but now I can't get rid of her. Molly is too old to care. She just does her business and gets on with life. Scooters is really jealous... While the rest of the world was distracted at Ryan's tonight (good times, thanks Ryan) Josh and Joanne decided to have a date at the house. Upon my return, I made the usual embarrassing, "Hand Check" announcement only to find them searching for Waldo in my family Waldo books I brought home the other day. FYI, Joanne is faster.
Jennifer was easily my best friend at work when I was contracted to Cat last year. I spent many hours at her desk in front of her computer complaining about all the work she made me do for her.Times haven't changed :-) Her laptop, which turned out to be the exact same model as the one I'm typing on now, was pooping out on her. What a great excuse to try out her hostess abilities! Jimmy cooked the steaks and Jennifer made the potatoes salad and dessert, which I got to take home!!! Their daughter, Rachel, was pretty cranky, but eventually we got to play. Their dog, Macey, was extremely playful, but eventually got distracted. We even got some work done for the school as Jimmy will hopefully be the one taking care of our elevator trouble. All in all, a pretty good night.
Steve and Elise left me with the enormous responsibility of watering their veggies while they are on vacation this week. The rain last weekend kept me from having to water until today. Not checking the weather, I walked over at 6:30am and took care of business and got poured on by rain clouds at 6:50 on my way back. What a waste.
A deal was struck by my two bosses at the beginning of the summer. As if I was property to be traded, they decided to slave me out to the IT boss for June, and the maintenance boss for July. As July begins, so does the new work. We moved furniture last week. This week, it's painting. Today, Ron and I finished the upstairs bathrooms, and tomorrow, the downstairs. Exciting huh? Sorry for the narrative post. One more thing.
Ryan...this is what I had to give up today. You see alot of expired soda from the machines pop up for grabs at the end of the year and throughout the summer. My favorite diet drink at school, Pepsi Lime, was up in mass quantities today...and I couldn't snag it. I hope you feel guilty when you drink your next coffee man!!! The only remaining news item for the day is that I got to have dinner with a great guy from church who is taking the baton of leadership from a committee at church. It's great to spend time catching up with Lon, and great to find a new favorite item at Jalapeno's. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture first. When will I learn??? Picture, THEN eat.
Last year's Chicago trip was considered to be pretty relaxing. But due to the shortening of the trip (returning at 2am Sunday) and a busy Sunday, this week did not begin so relaxed. Sunday's busyness included volleyball and the first pictures of the year to prove it!
That is one hansom serve if ever I saw one.
A tie-breaking third game was supposed to go down, but at the last second, the girls proposed something else. That's right, making it all about gender in a girls vs. guys game. Who won again?
Real life kicked in at work last week with a full-time work schedule. So I had to be in to work at (gasp) 8am today. But thanks to the 12 hour work day last week, it was only a half day. The rest of the afternoon allowed me to get the annual gutter cleaning done for a lady at church while hearing several more stories about what Peoria was like 50 years ago. Then computer support and dinner with Jimmy D's fam. I feel pretty wimpy when it occurs to me that God has me on a "light" learning plan. It doesn't seem so light to have your income cut in half, actually have to sweat on your new job and still realize God easily provides. But try seeing that happen to a family with 8 kids who then tricks you into staying a feeding YOU dinner :-) It's alot harder to complain about circumstances and throw a pity party for myself, even if I do have excuses.
And finally, a winning night at church league softball. Pictures are still being added occasionally. Today's MVP is the dynamic duo that is Phillips.
I once again come to you too tired to offer a worthy post of narration and humor. Please accept this raw data and enjoy it.
My own video from the weekend is now available (below) as well as someone else's from YouTube showing the second freeze frame attempt. There was some confusion about the timing of the event which resulted in two attempts. There were somewhere around 40 people involved from what we could tell.
This was the first attempt at noon. I made the decision to stay out and video tape (aka wimped out) not knowing yet that there would be a second freeze at 1pm.
Here's the 1pm version, in which I participated. Our crew is not visible in this person's YouTube video until the very end where, unfortunately, Becky and Elizabeth (a friend of hers who told us about the freeze) get called out on an unrealistic high five.
I don't remember the streets being this crowded last year. Weather it was our timing (we spent a long time in line at the port-a-potties this year) or a different choice in route, we definitely avoided it by heading further north after this clip.
The girls got a free shoulder adjustment while bobbing and weaving through the street like we were being chased.
Moving on to Saturday. Once again, I choose sleep over blogging. The updated photo album documents a marvelous breakfast...at 11am, Josh's new status (be sure to ask him about it), Chinese food sharing at P.F Chang's, ice cream at the Plush Horse, my brief foray into close-up photography while the girls took way too long in the bathroom, and finally, fireworks in Itasca, the second largest in the state. Which ones were the largest? NOT Peoria's!!! :-P
I love visiting big cities. Wouldn't wanna live there, but you know. Though we dropped on the floor upon arriving back at casa Gottemoller, walking around downtown all day was fun. Of course, that means there's no way you're getting a commentary. Not pictured is Jen, Ben's awesome sister. Here's the pictures, in which you will find a jaunt in BenG's Solstice, freeze frame at the bean (video to be converted for you when I get home), Willis Tower Skydeck (formerly known as Sears Tower which we will still call it because who wouldn't?), Giordano's Pizza, The craziness that is the Taste Of Chicago, waiting for fireworks, the craziness that is getting home from the fireworks, and the girls having ice cream at midnight.
Ya I've been doing this for several months now, but Wednesday was different. It marked my first day of full-time employment at the school, and full days it has been. The mornings were spent clearing out an office building of all it's furniture, to be donated to the school. Sidekicks included Ron and Bricen (sp). Bricen is such a child. You can't take your eyes off him for a second!
Afternoons, and that one evening I keep telling people about, were spent making these messes into pretty router hubs. Yes I'm proud of it, and no those will not just be hanging in mid-air forever.
In the morning, I leave for Chicago for a little 4th reunion trip. Last year I got to spend a few days enjoying the city and burbs with a great group. This year will be similar, except Sarah has been replaced by Josh and Joanne. Miss you Sarah! The plans are roughly the same as before, with one major exception. Our goal is to get to there early enough to attend a prep meeting with the group, "Improv Everywhere". These are the guys responsible for the impressive NYC pranks, Grand Central Station Freeze and Mirror On The Subway, among others. While artsy things like this are not my thing, it is a opportunity for a new experience, and y'all know I hate to pass those up. I believe tomorrow's event is another Freeze at the Chicago Bean. I'll let ya know.
The blog is someone to talk to about my day, and to give much deserved attention to friends. It has at times become a soap box and a plea for attention, like alot of others. Perhaps, however, it will get back to glorifying God. Let's find out shall we?
